Exemptions

There are properties that are exempt from AB 1482

You are exempt from AB 1482 if you meet one of the following criteria:

  1. You are a natural person or trust that owns a single-family home or condominium
  2. A property that received its certificate of occupancy within the past 15 years
  3. Your property is already deed-restricted as affordable housing
  4. Housing owned by a non-profit, church, educational, or other government entity
Exemptions are only applicable with proper exemption noticing. A court can nullify a rent increase notice if it is not properly noticed. Notice forms are available at caanet.org.
